Truck masterclass

30% for non CDL holders, 20% for cdl holders.

Trucking is not the game if you don't have your money right.

Its bigger than you, by you hopping in prematurely, you hurt other people. my goal since 2015 show you how to stay in business. I hate the

You need access to cash or credit. its gonna break down. 10 or 20k put aside when truck is put down, even with a warranty. you have to put the warranty.

its also important that you protect that truck. stay in

cash buyer, 106k to 138k. the trucks that were 50k last year are now 70 to 80k this year. inflation.

You don't want a truck that's older than 2017. preferably 2018 less thank 150k. as long as you get the right warranty.  prices are up. options, bite the bullet if you are in a good financial space. or use this time to get educated until the market corrects itself.

You have to know if the truck breaks down and there's a 8k bill will I be able to cover that?

WHY THE INCREASE IN TRUCK PRICES

Chip Shortage slows heavy duty truck production.  less supply, demand goes up.

dealership bought prices up. ports are behind. the people that are up and running are the people who benefit from this. your time to eat right now. if you want to get into the game, you will get hit over the head. possible to still do it, but you have to be finally fit to do it. prices of trucks will go down eventually.

8 steps of execution

1.create LLC

2. determining what type of trucking company to start (heavy hauling, car hauling,) know what direction before you file for your licenses. you have to let them know what you are doing in the beginning. you have to know in what direction. flat beds is a specialty sector of the industry. it pays more than refeer and dry van and it requires a certain skill from that driver. if you go flatbed, make sure you hire a driver that has flatbed experiences. guinea pig is dangerous, freight has to be strapped down properly because the equipment is exposed.

3. obtain mc and DOT number. we have companies that do that for you. me personally I rather a third party company do the filing for you. I did one wrong selection, one wrong box and it costs me 30 days of lost business. I almost lost my driver. its really cheap too.

4. determining how your business will operate. employees or independent contractors.

5. locating and obtaining a truck, biggest decision. my personal is freight line cascading. i bought the most of. reason is it has Detroit d15 engine. most mechanics know how to work on. the parts are accessible nationwide. it'll get the job done.

Find a mechanic before you get a truck. network within the people inside the industry you want to be involved in. what truck do you work on the best? what trucks do you find parts easy?

comments is my second choice. Volvo trucks, the drivers like it because they can turn a lot sharper than

6. recruiting and hiring the drivers. i tell people get approved for the truck first and then hire the driver. at least get approved. a driver is going to want to know, what kind of truck are you going to get?

manual or automatic? I used to always say get a manual, I've been saying that for years. real drivers that's been driving for 10 years like manual I fed into that. once there was a pinch in drivers, a lot of these schools they are training them in automatic trucks.

a driver that drives automatic cannot drive manual. but a driver that drives manual can always drive automatic.

7. insurance is one of the highest expenses. i work and build relationships with insurance companies. they have been given the best rates. make sure that they are accepted. every broker does not accept every insurance. some insurance does not pay out on the claim and then that truck gets put on the do not load list.

8. Set up registration, last step.

LEASING VS BUYING TRUCKS

The biggest and most rich companies do not lease. Mentors say do what they do, when you meet people that are at the destination that you are trying to get to. why am i going against the grain? they buy them and sell them after 3 years. everyone is a guru on internet and they put out this BS information. when i speak i speak on experience and research. why the hell are you going to do it? i'm so protective of ya'll. i hate when people don't take this serious. I'm so passionate about this.

Buy truck, for 3 years once it get to a certain amount of miles then we sell them.

Biggest obstacle? most of us said driver retention or finding driver. narrative 'driver shortage' is BS. the truck is trucking companies are not positioning themselves to make drivers to work for them. there are steps that I took personally. good energy is out here, the brand is out there. easy to recruit. information before i blew up. why? not a perfect driver. once I got a driver, I gotta keep them. I don't have a high turnover rate. unless you steal, i want you to stay with me. that's my goal.

1. Before posting an ad, post on your social medias. Instagram and Facebook. everyone on your timeline first needs to know you have a trucking company. before you get to indeed and Craiglist. join the facebook groups first.

2. Tell your friends and family members. everybody i got in contact with knew i had a trucking company. everyone needs to know! my mailman knew.

3. conduct a good interview, first impression is everything! key questions. i created a questionnaire i gave all my students and in order on how to ask the questions. what answers to look for once you ask the question.

4. create an ad on indeed.com or meetatruckdriver.com, craigslist. include as many details as possible starting with scope of work and compensation. do they have to unload, if home everyday, home every week, home once a year. some people be lying! tell the truth. save your time and theirs. compensation is important. don't discredit that. let them know off the rip.

5. driver pay- this year i offer them 30% after fuel. 1300 to 1800 a week in today's market. I made sure that we stay in business too. we making 7 to 8k a week right now. you know fuel is up right now, even for cars. after fuel helps out two ways, company makes profit but also makes driver more conscious about where he refuels at.

6. if insurance allows it, expand your search to different cities. trucks are mobile. i got tracking device on my truck, as long as you park the truck in a safe area. some insurance don't like the truck to be parked in different cities.

7. offer benefits. I didn't look at what the big companies was offering. all big companies are offering benefits. we have resources to offer benefits.

8. offer a bonus! can be paid in segments. nothing less than 2500 to 3000. break it up into segments.

9. up to date equipment and automatic truck to increase your options.

10. run ads on IG, Facebook, and google (for drivers). I don't want a sob story, the drivers are out there. work harder, they are out there. i got so many people that got drivers.... enough money so if truck sits for 6 months, You don't lost your house. big boy industry. Neo has this phrase, it has to work or it has to work. good mindset to have. no plan Bs. you'll be amazed how many things you can accomplish. found first driver in 2012. now it was time to generate some money. no relationships, no shippers, no contract. truck note around the corner.

I made my first million dollars off this load board. its database with all the freight coming out of every city. it changed the game. it put the trucking industry online. people had to go on the payphone to find the next load. take advantage of the technology. I made 7 figures. I can post this, I showed my back office.  this connects you the trucking company to the freight. it was a game changer.

i landed a 3 year contract in 2017! that contract changed my life. it freed up my time. i brought Rob on, he came from prison. it took me off the load board. everyday the driver were doing the same thing, same shipper and destination. it was Duracell battery. I got it off the load board. 1500 dollars, 2 trips. i said how often you do this lane? we got this contract expanded for 3 years. how many trucks you have? 7 of them. we had a meeting, the drivers were happy with it. the money was coming in so crazy it felt illegal. you know how much money was coming in, easier for drivers to plan their life they know

1 thing excellently, communication is what i did. broker said I could have given it to many truck companies. when you got to the shipper, you called me and let me know. when you got loaded, when they got to the receiver and when they are unloaded. we always gotta chase to get the updates.

2) thing to be successful in trucking, relationships. relationships will open doors that your money can't. that relationship allowed me to give that lane to my friends. i put trucks into a good lane that paid good money and put my friends on.

during pandemic, i'm happy i got those relationships. relationship was so solid, we are going to pay you what we paid you last year. i dont go on IG and post stuff from the news, I post on stuff i've been through personally.

FACTORING WAS A GAME CHANGER.

third party bank purchases load and

people would use their last to get into the trucking game. i saw factoring save those people, they get access to the capital immediately. use profits from first 3 days to pay fuel for the other loads. it kept me in business, I loved the cashflow and gave me access to the cashflow. if it wasn't for factoring i would be out of business.

OWNER OPERATORS

Ffavorite of being a fleet owner. this guy he owns that truck, he bought that truck in his name, but hasn't grasped the concept of running a business. some people just want to drive. don't want to book loads and do paperwork. you as fleet owner with DOT owner you say hey Jim, you got a good truck, come under good energy. under my DOT number and insurance and I'll charge you 20%. I'll dispatch you, handle your invoices and I'll insure you. I'll pay you every Friday. if we get him 10k, I get 2k and he gets 8k. when the truck breaks down who gets to pay for it?

I had 4 owner operators. i get 2-3k a week to do payroll. win win for both parties because it frees up his time and just focus on the road. some of favorite stories cdl drivers took my course and became owner ops.

Testimony: I worked 6 days a week, 2k every 2 weeks. girlfriend got cdl, the money wasn't adding up. Alix goodenergy came in, we signed up sept 2019. June 2020 got our first truck. 10k a week is common for us. 16800 in one week was the most we have made. you must get educated before you get compensated. become as knowledgeable in trucking. wife took dispatching course and she does that part. make sure you execute and we'll see you on the other side. from company drivers to owner operators. 1k a week to having 16k weeks.

SAFETY OVER MONEY

80K pound machines, not to be played with. crossing our ts and dotting our is. quickest way to go out of business.  high risk, high reward. cameras on the truck is non negotiable. non cdl holders are less careful, main reason why people get

it needs to face driver to make sure they are not texting or sleep while driving.

2022 OUTLOOK

Where industry is headed. with things going on in the ports, drivers, inflation.

the economy relying on trucks the most they ever have. new infrastructure deal. they approved money to build bridges and improve the highways.

trailers will make a lot of money, trailer shortage good for people that are runing.

flatbed, hotshot and dump trucks sector will be hot. 40ft trailer with hotshot. dodge ram 3500. dont do hotshot if its not that truck.

new carriers will take a hit with upfront cost right now. you make that decision and do what's best for you.
